Aloha mai kākou,
My name is Kamie Iona-Flynn, a native Hawaiian and the creator of ‘Ohana Picnics. When I was six years old, I moved from ‘Oahu to the East Coast. It wasn’t until 2011, when I was 29, that I made my way back to the islands. After all the feelings settled in, I put my feet in the same sand I remember running through as a kid on the same beach that was across the street from the house I lived in. I felt a sense of nostalgia and it truly felt like HOME! The amount of aloha you feel from this place and its people is something different, special. From that point on, I made a promise to myself to stay connected and commit to learning more about my culture. That’s how ‘Ohana Picnics began. I thought, people NEED to FEEL this! How can I share this type of aloha with people right here in Rhode Island.
